Falls from height are the single biggest cause of workplace deaths. There were 46 fatalities and 3351 injuries suffered in 2005/6 alone.
The Working at Height regulations: 2005 (WAHR) have been introduced to prevent death and injuries. People controlling the work of others are duty-bound to use the most suitable equipment to prevent falls.
